Keeping an older Android phone fast and clean
A budget or ageing phone doesn't have to feel slow. Most of the sluggishness comes from a handful of avoidable habits.
People replace phones that would run fine for another two years. Before you do, a bit of housekeeping usually restores most of the speed.
Where the slowness hides
Dozens of apps running in the background, a storage drive nearly full, and "cleaner" apps that themselves eat resources. Uninstall what you don't use, keep 15–20% storage free, and be skeptical of any app promising to speed up your phone.
Updates still matter
Even on an old device, keeping the system and your apps updated closes security holes and often fixes the very slowdowns you're feeling. If an app is abandoned by its developer, that's a fair reason to find a maintained alternative.
